India deploys specialized tunnel rescue team as Nepal flood toll mounts

New Delhi has mobilized specialized rescue personnel to support Nepal's emergency response efforts following the catastrophic flash floods that swept through the region. The deployment of India's tunnel rescue team underscores the scale of the disaster and the transnational nature of the humanitarian crisis, with a significant number of Indian citizens and persons of Indian origin among those unaccounted for.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, at least 287 Indian nationals remain missing as of Saturday, August 29. The figure does not include 128 additional persons of Indian origin who are also unaccounted for following the disaster, bringing the total number of missing individuals with Indian connections to over 400.

The tunnel rescue team's specialized equipment and expertise are expected to enhance ongoing search and rescue operations in areas where infrastructure damage and geographic terrain have complicated access for emergency responders. India has maintained close coordination with Nepali authorities throughout the relief efforts.
