India dismisses UN committee remarks as politically motivated

The Ministry of External Affairs issued a sharp response to comments made by the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (UNCERD), dismissing the observations as lacking factual basis and motivated by political considerations.

The committee had previously expressed concerns regarding reports of alleged large-scale violations by law enforcement personnel against various ethnic and ethno-religious populations in India. In its rebuttal, the MEA characterized these references as "politically motivated" and "highly malicious," signaling New Delhi's firm rejection of what it views as unwarranted external scrutiny.

India has consistently maintained that it upholds constitutional protections and democratic safeguards for all citizens and communities. The government has previously contested similar international observations, asserting that domestic institutions and judicial mechanisms are equipped to address any legitimate grievances.
