India eliminates boarding pass stamping for international passengers

India's Ministry of Civil Aviation has announced the phased elimination of boarding pass stamping for international departing passengers, effective from September 1. The decision applies to all international flights departing from Indian airports and marks a significant shift toward digitalized travel documentation.
The stamping of boarding passes has been a standard procedure at Indian airports for decades, serving as a manual verification step during the departure process. However, with advancements in digital systems and airport infrastructure, the measure has been deemed unnecessary, as electronic records now provide sufficient documentation and tracking of passenger movements.
Airports across India have been notified to implement the change across all international terminals. Airlines and ground handlers have been instructed to update their procedures to accommodate the new directive, ensuring smooth passenger flow through check-in and boarding gates.
The move aligns with India's broader modernisation agenda for airport operations and aims to reduce queuing times and operational bottlenecks during peak travel periods.
