India exported defence equipment worth ₹38,424 crore to Europe during the last financial year, establishing itself as the continent's third-largest supplier of military hardware. The milestone reflects a significant expansion of India's defence manufacturing capabilities and export reach in recent years.
The surge in defence exports has been fuelled by increased global demand for military equipment and ammunition, particularly following the outbreak of conflict in Ukraine. Defence procurement agencies across Europe have diversified their supply chains, with Indian manufacturers benefiting from the opportunity to meet rising international orders.
The growth in defence exports has been facilitated by India's Make in India initiative, which has bolstered domestic production capacity in the defence sector. Enhanced manufacturing capabilities have enabled Indian defence companies to scale up output and compete effectively in international markets.
India's defence export footprint now extends to more than 80 countries worldwide, reflecting the quality and competitiveness of domestically manufactured military equipment. The expansion positions India as an increasingly important player in the global defence supply chain and complements New Delhi's strategic partnership initiatives across multiple regions.
