India will continue to support all efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability in the West Asia region through dialogue and diplomacy, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Tuesday. Speaking at the outset of talks with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Jaishankar described the situation in the Gulf as a matter of "deep concern" for New Delhi.
"The situation in the Gulf remains a matter of deep concern. We will continue to work together and support all efforts to promote dialogue and diplomacy," Jaishankar said in his televised opening remarks. The statement underscores India's diplomatic stance amid renewed tensions in the region, marked by recent attacks on Saudi Arabia attributed to Houthi militants.
Al Nahyan, who arrived in Mumbai on Monday for a two-day visit, is the first senior UAE official to visit India following the latest escalation in regional tensions. During the bilateral discussions, both ministers also focused on strengthening economic ties between the two nations. Jaishankar highlighted the significance of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which has substantially boosted bilateral trade and investment flows.
New Delhi reiterated its commitment to ensuring the free and unimpeded flow of trade, energy, and essential commodities like fertiliser through regional waters. India's balanced approach reflects its strategic interests in maintaining stability in one of the world's most crucial energy corridors while deepening its partnership with key Gulf partners.
