India extends ESIC amnesty scheme deadline to December 31

The government has extended the New Amnesty Scheme, 2025, by three months, pushing the deadline to December 31. The scheme provides employers an opportunity to resolve ad-hoc assessments and related disputes with the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) under favourable terms.

Under the amnesty framework, employers can settle ad-hoc assessments by paying actual contributions and applicable interest without incurring additional damages. This provision aims to facilitate compliance among businesses struggling with assessment backlogs or disputed liability determinations.

The scheme also permits withdrawal of cases where employers have already remitted dues to ESIC, subject to payment of 10 percent of the disputed damages amount. This provision incentivizes voluntary compliance and resolution of outstanding matters.

The extended timeline provides businesses additional opportunity to avail of the scheme's benefits. The amnesty initiative is intended to reduce pendency in ESIC matters while encouraging employers to regularize their statutory obligations without facing substantial financial consequences.

Employers seeking to benefit from the scheme are advised to file applications through prescribed channels before the December 31 deadline. The move aligns with the government's broader push to streamline compliance frameworks for India's employer base.
