India's Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has approved an extension of the Comprehensive Integrated Township Policy for an additional five-year period, officials said. The policy framework, designed to facilitate large-scale, planned residential and commercial developments, will remain in force to support infrastructure growth and organized urbanization.
The Integrated Township Policy was initially introduced to streamline approvals and incentivize developers to undertake comprehensive township projects that include residential, commercial, and social infrastructure components. By extending the policy, the government aims to sustain momentum in the township development sector and address India's growing urban housing requirements.
The continuation of the policy is expected to benefit both ongoing township projects nearing completion and new ventures in the pipeline. Developers will continue to receive regulatory support and expedited clearances under the framework, which has been credited with attracting significant private investment in organized urban development.
Township projects typically span large land parcels and incorporate mixed-use development with housing, retail, office spaces, and community facilities. The policy extension signals the government's commitment to promoting sustainable, planned urbanization as an alternative to scattered, unorganized development patterns across Indian cities.
