The Central government has extended the application deadline for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for the 2026-27 academic year to October 31, 2026, providing students with an extended window to submit their applications.

Eligible candidates are required to register through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) to apply for the scheme. The scholarship provides annual financial assistance of Rs 12,000 to selected students, aimed at supporting meritorious youth from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

The extension of the deadline comes as part of efforts by the Education Ministry to ensure maximum participation from eligible students across the country. The NMMSS scheme is designed to recognize and support talented students who may lack financial resources to pursue their education.

Students meeting the eligibility criteria are advised to complete their applications before the revised deadline to avoid any last-minute complications. Further details regarding the scholarship scheme and the application process are available on the official NSP website.

The scheme continues to play a significant role in the government's broader initiative to enhance educational access and promote merit-based advancement among India's student population.
