India extends paramilitary deployment in Delhi through October 31

New Delhi — The Ministry of Home Affairs has approved an extension of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) deployment in Delhi through October 31, marking the second such extension in recent weeks, according to official sources on Friday.

Approximately 273 CAPF companies were initially deployed in the national capital earlier this month in response to protests by the Cockroach Janta Party. The Home Ministry issued fresh coordination directives to Delhi Police and participating CAPF units on October 22 to manage the extended deployment.

The extension was granted following a formal request from Delhi Police, which cited concerns about potential flash protests by political organizations and other groups in sensitive areas across the city. Officials emphasized that maintaining the heightened security posture was necessary to ensure adequate law and order management during the period.

A similar extension had already been sanctioned in mid-October, underscoring authorities' assessment of the evolving security situation in the capital. The ministry's decision reflects efforts to balance public safety with anticipated civic disruptions in coming weeks.
