India fields compact squad for Asian Para Games 2026 campaign

India is set to begin its Asian Para Games 2026 campaign with a streamlined roster of para-athletes aiming to replicate previous successful outings at the continental multi-sport event. While the Indian contingent is smaller than in prior editions, selectors have prioritised quality and medal potential across key sporting disciplines.

The Indian challenge will be spearheaded by experienced performers including Sumit, Sheetal, and Avani, who are expected to lead efforts in their respective events. These athletes bring proven track records and will be instrumental in India's bid for a respectable medal tally at the Games.

Historically, Indian para-athletes have delivered strong performances at the Asian Para Games, with established campaigners like Pramod Bhagat and Bhavina Patel among those who have contributed significantly to India's overall achievement at the event. The focus on fielding a more selective squad reflects a strategic approach to maximise competitive advantage in events where Indian athletes possess proven capability.

The Indian delegation will compete across multiple para-sports disciplines, with organisers scheduling competition to commence from Sunday. Officials have emphasised that despite the reduced squad size, India remains committed to achieving competitive success and advancing its position within the Asian para-sports hierarchy.
