India flags Chinese troop deviations as LAC tensions rise

Indian officials have identified unconventional troop movements by Chinese forces as a key factor behind the escalation of tensions along the contested border region. According to New Delhi's assessment, stability along the LAC depends heavily on both nations adhering to mutually understood patrolling protocols and operational boundaries.

The statement comes as reports indicate a series of confrontations have occurred at multiple points in Arunachal Pradesh, a state India administers but China partially claims. These incidents have raised concerns about the fragility of border management arrangements between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

Indian defence and foreign ministry officials have previously emphasized the importance of established patrolling patterns in maintaining the status quo along the frontier. Any deviation from these agreed protocols risks creating misunderstandings and potentially dangerous physical confrontations between troops.

The LAC, stretching over 3,400 kilometres, remains one of the world's most sensitive borders. While both nations have established mechanisms for managing border disputes, incidents continue to occur periodically, particularly in remote, high-altitude regions where the demarcation remains disputed.
