India forms task force to explore Formula 1 racing revival
India's Sports Ministry has established a 10-member committee to assess the feasibility and challenges of bringing Formula 1 racing back to the country. The task force aims to develop a roadmap for hosting a Grand Prix by 2028.

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced the formation of the task force on Tuesday, with Yugal Kishore Joshi, Programme Director and adviser at Niti Aayog, heading the committee. The panel brings together key stakeholders from the government and private motorsports sector to chart a coordinated path forward.
The 10-member group includes the joint secretary for sports Kunal, representatives from the Motorsports Federation of India (FMSCI), and officials from the departments of tourism and commerce. State governments of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra are also represented, reflecting regional interest in hosting a potential Grand Prix venue.
The task force has been tasked with developing comprehensive strategies for sustainable growth of motorsports in India and creating a holistic roadmap for Formula 1's return. The committee will conduct a detailed assessment of obstacles that could impede the revival of high-level racing in the country and identify policy measures needed to overcome them.
India last hosted a Formula 1 race in 2013 in Delhi. The government's 2028 target reflects ambitions to re-establish the country as a major venue for international motorsports, building on growing domestic interest in racing and automotive innovation.
