India funds Rs. 600 million emergency care facility in Mannar

India has committed Rs. 600 million towards the development of an emergency care unit in Mannar, marking another chapter in the medical infrastructure collaboration between the two neighbouring nations. The funding initiative aims to enhance emergency medical services in the Northern Province district, addressing healthcare accessibility challenges in the region.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake acknowledged the contribution during discussions with Indian leadership, emphasising the significance of the project for Mannar's residents. The President extended formal thanks to Prime Minister Modi for India's continued support of Sri Lanka's healthcare development objectives.

The emergency care facility is expected to strengthen rapid response capabilities and provide critical medical interventions to patients in Mannar. The project reflects the broader framework of bilateral cooperation between Colombo and New Delhi in the health sector, which has seen increased engagement in recent months.

The facility's establishment comes as Sri Lanka continues efforts to upgrade medical infrastructure across provincial districts. India has maintained a consistent role in supporting healthcare initiatives on the island, with multiple projects underway across different regions to bolster emergency and tertiary care services.
