India hikes ATF prices 5.46%, commercial LPG rates surge
State-owned oil companies raised aviation turbine fuel prices by ₹6.28 per litre on Tuesday, marking the second increase in as many months. Commercial LPG rates for establishments also climbed, adding to operating cost pressures across transport and hospitality sectors.

Aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices jumped 5.46 per cent to ₹121.28 per litre for domestic carriers, according to state-owned oil firms, following an earlier ₹5 per litre increase announced on August 1. The latest hike of ₹6.28 per litre tracks rising international crude benchmarks.
The back-to-back price increases pose significant challenges for Indian airlines, for whom ATF constitutes approximately 40 per cent of operational expenses. Carriers have already absorbed substantial fuel cost inflation this year despite recent global price moderation.
Commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) rates used by hotels, restaurants and other establishments also climbed, with 19-kilogramme cylinder prices rising ₹9.50 to ₹2,747.50 from ₹2,738. Smaller 5-kilogramme market-priced cooking gas cylinders increased marginally to ₹764 from ₹762.
Tuesday's increases reverse two consecutive months of relief for consumers. In August, commercial LPG fell ₹192 per 19-kg cylinder, while July saw rates drop ₹183.50. The pricing adjustments reflect rupee movements and international energy market volatility alongside domestic demand patterns.
