India joins seven nations bidding to host 2036 Olympic Games

The International Olympic Committee has confirmed that seven nations are vying to become the host of the 2036 Olympic Games, the world's premier multisport event. India is among the bidders seeking to bring the Games to South Asia for only the second time in the event's modern history.

The IOC has established a structured timeline for the selection process. A shortlist of preferred candidate cities will be announced in 2027, followed by the naming of preferred hosts in 2028. The committee will make its final decision on the winning host city by mid-2029, giving the selected nation several years to prepare infrastructure and organisational arrangements.

Hosting the Olympics represents a significant opportunity for bidding nations to showcase their capabilities, boost tourism, and undertake major infrastructure development projects. The 2036 Games will mark a major sporting milestone, with the selection process designed to ensure thorough evaluation of each candidate's readiness and commitment.

The announcement reflects continued global interest in hosting the Olympic Games, despite the substantial financial and logistical commitments required. India previously hosted the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in 2010, demonstrating experience in organising major international sporting events.
