India Launches Annual Toll Pass at Rs 1,500 for Local Residents

India's Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has unveiled a toll pass initiative aimed at providing relief to residents living in proximity to national highway toll plazas. The annual pass, priced at Rs 1,500, is designed for private vehicle owners whose residences fall within a 20-kilometre range of toll collection points.

Under the scheme, qualifying residents can register their vehicles and obtain the pass, allowing them unlimited toll-free passage at their designated plaza. The measure addresses the burden of repeated toll payments faced by local commuters who frequently traverse highways for work, education, and daily errands.

The pass will be issued starting November 1, with registration expected to take place at toll plaza facilities. Vehicle owners are required to provide residential proof and vehicle registration documents to establish eligibility. The initiative is part of the government's broader effort to streamline toll collection systems while providing targeted relief to affected communities.

Eligible residents can apply at their nearest toll plaza or through designated online portals. The annual pass validity period and renewal procedures are expected to be clarified through official guidelines from the road transport authority.
