India launches anti-dumping inquiry into Chinese glycine imports

India has begun a formal anti-dumping investigation into glycine imports from China, according to trade authorities. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) is examining whether Chinese suppliers are selling the chemical at below-fair-value prices in the Indian market.

The inquiry will assess whether such dumping practices have caused material injury to Indian glycine producers. If evidence of dumping and domestic harm is established, the DGTR will recommend the imposition of anti-dumping duties on affected imports.

Final authority to impose any protective duties rests with the Finance Ministry, which will review the DGTR's findings and recommendations. The investigation is part of India's established mechanism to protect domestic industries from unfair trade practices.

Anti-dumping probes are a common trade remedy used globally when foreign suppliers are accused of pricing products artificially low to gain market share. India has previously conducted similar inquiries across various chemical and manufacturing sectors to safeguard local producers.
