India launches digital infrastructure platform to transform tourism sector
The Indian government has unveiled a new digital public infrastructure project designed to make the country's tourism offerings more accessible and discoverable. The National Digital Tourism Stack aims to connect thousands of tourism experiences and homestays on a shared digital platform.

India's Ministry of Tourism has partnered with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) to develop the National Digital Tourism Stack, a comprehensive digital infrastructure initiative unveiled on World Tourism Day. Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Shekhawat launched the project at an event held at Bharat Mandapam, signalling the government's commitment to modernising the tourism sector.
The initiative seeks to consolidate India's fragmented tourism market onto a unified digital platform, enabling seamless discovery, verification and booking of tourism products and services. Officials outlined an ambitious roadmap to onboard 23,000 tourism experiences and homestays by the end of 2028, substantially expanding the digital footprint of the sector across the country.
Developed in collaboration with the International Centre for DPI Innovation and Advancement (ICDIA), the National Digital Tourism Stack is designed to enhance trust and transparency within India's tourism ecosystem. The shared infrastructure will empower smaller tourism providers, including homestay operators and local experience curators, to reach wider audiences through a standardised digital interface.
The move reflects a broader governmental push to leverage digital public infrastructure to democratise market access across sectors, potentially positioning India as a leader in digital tourism platforms within South Asia.
