India Launches Second Sleeper Vande Bharat Express Train

India's second Sleeper Vande Bharat Express train commenced operations on the Varanasi-Delhi route following its formal inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. The inauguration ceremony was held virtually, with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw present at the event.

The new train is equipped with a maximum operational speed of 180 kilometers per hour and features 823 berths across its coaches, significantly expanding passenger capacity on the high-traffic corridor connecting the religious city of Varanasi with the national capital. The train represents an advancement in India's indigenous rail technology and manufacturing capabilities.

Among its key features, the Sleeper Vande Bharat incorporates comprehensive closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance systems throughout the train, enhancing security and passenger safety. The train also incorporates modern amenities and design standards consistent with India's flagship Vande Bharat fleet.

The introduction of the sleeper variant addresses long-standing demand for premium overnight travel options on major Indian routes. This development follows the successful deployment of seated Vande Bharat Express trains on several corridors, marking an expansion of the modernized rail network under the government's infrastructure development agenda.
