India launches task force to explore Formula 1 racing revival prospects

The Sports Ministry has announced the formation of a task force aimed at evaluating prospects for bringing Formula 1 racing back to India, signalling renewed government interest in the international motorsport circuit.
The task force has been structured to facilitate inter-departmental coordination, drawing expertise from the Departments of Tourism and Commerce alongside representatives from both the Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra state governments. This multi-agency approach reflects the complex logistics involved in hosting a Formula 1 Grand Prix, which requires coordination across infrastructure development, regulatory frameworks, and economic planning.
The move comes as India seeks to strengthen its position in global sporting events and capitalize on the growing economic opportunities presented by international motorsports. Formula 1 had previously hosted races in India, with the Indian Grand Prix running at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida between 2011 and 2013.
The constitution of the task force suggests serious governmental intent to explore the conditions necessary for India's return to the Formula 1 calendar. The involvement of major states indicates that multiple regions may be considering bids to host future races, potentially competing for the opportunity to develop the requisite infrastructure and secure the associated economic benefits.
