India Meteorological Department issues flash flood alert for 10 Jharkhand districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a flash flood alert for ten districts across Jharkhand as incessant rains continue to batter the state. The warning covers Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, Khunti, Saraikela-Kharsawan, West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum, and Simdega districts.

According to the IMD bulletin, the alert remains operational until the morning of September 2, with meteorological authorities cautioning residents and district administrations to remain vigilant. Flash flood warnings are typically issued when rainfall intensity and hydrological conditions create a significant risk of sudden inundation in vulnerable areas.

The alert underscores the need for heightened precautions across the affected regions, particularly in low-lying areas and regions near water bodies. Authorities have been advised to monitor river levels closely and prepare contingency measures to safeguard residents in flood-prone zones.

Residents in the warned districts are advised to avoid crossing swollen water bodies and to refrain from venturing into areas prone to flooding until the alert is formally withdrawn. District administrations have been directed to coordinate rescue and relief operations if required during this period.
