India mobilises evacuation as second cyclone threatens region

Indian disaster management officials have initiated large-scale evacuation operations in coastal regions as Cyclone Murasu approaches the subcontinent. The cyclone is forecast to be less severe than its predecessor, Cyclone Arnab, which struck the region seven days earlier and left a trail of destruction in its wake.

Last week's cyclone claimed at least six lives and damaged numerous residential structures and crop fields across affected areas. The successive weather systems have strained local resources and infrastructure, with authorities prioritising the relocation of vulnerable populations to safer ground.

Metereological forecasters have indicated that while Murasu poses a significant threat, its intensity is expected to be moderately lower than Arnab. Nonetheless, coastal communities remain on high alert, with emergency services pre-positioning personnel and relief materials in anticipation of the storm's arrival.

Local authorities have urged residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to comply with evacuation orders. Relief camps have been established to accommodate evacuees, and coordination between state and national disaster response agencies is underway to ensure a swift and organised response to the approaching cyclone.
