India Must Guard Against Internal Discord, Rajnath Singh Warns

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday warned against the dangers of internal strife, citing historical instances where factional conflicts have weakened India's resolve and invited exploitation by those pursuing narrow self-interests.

Addressing a gathering at the inauguration of Fragrance Park in Lucknow's Chowk area, Singh underscored that freedom extends beyond voting rights. "Democracy is not limited to just casting a vote," he said. "It also entails fulfilling one's duties, respecting the Constitution and discharging one's responsibilities towards the nation."

The Defence Minister drew parallels between armed aggression and ideological sabotage, noting that some individuals have inflicted severe damage to national interests through their actions and beliefs without resorting to weapons. He pointed to historical precedent, stating that India has repeatedly lost its independence due to internal divisions that adversaries have exploited to further their interests.

Singh's remarks came during the unveiling of statues honoring freedom fighters Lala Lajpat Rai and Shaheed Bhagat Singh, invoking the sacrifices of nationalist leaders as he emphasized the contemporary need for national solidarity and civic responsibility.
