India needs democratic change, not upheaval like Nepal: Actor Prakash Raj

Actor Prakash Raj has voiced support for political change in India while firmly rejecting extra-constitutional means to achieve it. Speaking on the issue of regime change, Raj emphasized that any transformation of government must be rooted in democratic processes rather than street agitation or extra-legal methods that have recently convulsed neighboring nations like Nepal and Bangladesh.

Raj clarified that he supports systemic reform but believes it should be pursued through the ballot box and constitutional frameworks. He called for sustained democratic engagement through the 2029 general elections, indicating his preference for India's established electoral system as the legitimate vehicle for political change.

The actor also raised concerns about the preventive detention of Abhijit Deepak, founder of the Confederation of Junior Physicians (CJP), ahead of a planned Trianga March in Delhi. The detention of a civil society leader in connection with organizing a patriotic demonstration drew criticism from Raj, who questioned the circumstances and timing of the arrest.

Raj's comments reflect broader tensions in India regarding the pace and methods of political reform, particularly among civil society activists who seek change while remaining committed to democratic institutions and constitutional governance.
