India needs risk capital ecosystem like US, China: Kamath
Nikhil Kamath, co-founder of Zerodha, has highlighted India's untapped potential in building world-class technology companies, pointing to a critical gap in venture funding and risk capital availability compared to global leaders.

Speaking at the NDTV World Summit, Kamath underscored India's capacity to develop globally competitive technology enterprises, but flagged the absence of a robust risk capital infrastructure as a key impediment to scaling innovation.
The venture capitalist drew comparisons with the United States and China, both of which have cultivated deep ecosystems of risk capital that fuel technological entrepreneurship and startup growth. India, despite its talent pool and expanding digital economy, has yet to establish an equivalent framework at the required scale.
Kamath's remarks reflect broader concerns within India's startup community about access to early-stage funding and the concentration of venture capital among established players. Building a thriving tech sector, he suggested, requires not just entrepreneurial ambition but also systemic investment mechanisms that can absorb and encourage risk-taking.
The observations come as India seeks to position itself as a global technology hub, with policymakers and industry leaders increasingly focused on creating conditions that attract and nurture high-growth ventures across sectors.
