India officially names 28 LAC friction points on national map

India has taken a formal administrative step to standardize nomenclature of 28 geographical features and locations along the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh, according to officials at the Ministry of Home Affairs. The designated places and geographical landmarks have been officially named and recorded on the Survey of India's authoritative maps following a consultation process with the Ladakh administration.

The standardization of names for these locations represents an effort to establish clear, unified geographical documentation across Indian administrative systems. By formally recognizing these 28 points through official nomenclature, the government aims to create consistent reference points for administrative, security, and cartographic purposes in the region.

Ladakh, which was elevated to a separate union territory in 2019, has emerged as a focal point for border management initiatives. The line separating Indian and Chinese-controlled territories has witnessed periodic tensions, making comprehensive geographical documentation a matter of administrative importance.

Official sources confirmed the completion of the naming exercise on Friday, emphasizing that the process followed established protocols for geographical designation within the Indian administrative framework. The measure is part of broader efforts to strengthen administrative governance in border regions and ensure clarity in geographical references across official documentation.
