India's renewable energy ambitions remain achievable, but will require critical infrastructure investments, Tanti said while speaking at WindEnergy 2026 in Hamburg. The statement carries particular weight given India's broader goal to generate 500 gigawatts from renewable sources—including the 100 GW from wind—within the next five years.

The most significant bottleneck for renewable energy development in the country is grid readiness, Tanti cautioned. Currently, electricity transmission infrastructure takes approximately five years to build—a timeline suited to traditional thermal or hydroelectric projects, which themselves require five to six years for development. This synchronization has allowed the sector to function, but renewable energy capacity can be added far more rapidly.

To fully unlock the potential of wind and solar generation, grid development timelines must be compressed to between 12 and 18 months, Tanti argued. This acceleration would allow transmission infrastructure to keep pace with the speed at which renewable energy projects can be deployed, removing a critical constraint on capacity additions.

Suzlon's assessment underscores a key challenge facing India's clean energy transition: while technology and project development pipelines can deliver renewable capacity quickly, the underlying grid infrastructure may struggle to absorb and distribute this power efficiently without substantial investment and accelerated timelines.
