India poised to become world's fourth-largest economy by 2027

India is on track to overtake Japan as the world's fourth-largest economy within the next three years, according to forecasts from the International Monetary Fund. The projection reflects India's sustained economic growth and expanding role in global commerce.

The IMF estimates India's GDP will reach US$4.52 trillion, equivalent to approximately S$5.8 trillion, by 2027. This figure positions India ahead of Japan, which has long held the fourth position in global economic rankings behind the United States, China, and Germany.

India's economic expansion has been driven by its large consumer base, growing manufacturing sector, and increasing digital economy. The country's workforce demographics and investment in infrastructure and technology have contributed to its upward economic trajectory.

The forecast underscores India's growing significance within Asia's economic landscape. For Singapore and other regional economies, India's continued expansion presents both competitive challenges and opportunities for trade and investment partnerships.

The IMF's projection assumes India maintains its current growth momentum, though global economic conditions and domestic policy decisions will ultimately determine whether the nation achieves this milestone on schedule.
