India positioned as global manufacturing hub, FM tells investors

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday articulated India's investment case as a multifaceted proposition extending well beyond any single industry or sector. Speaking to investors and business leaders, Ms. Sitharaman stressed that the nation's appeal lies in the alignment of several interconnected strengths that have crystallized over the past decade.

Among the factors underpinning India's attractiveness, she cited the country's vast domestic market scale, consistent economic growth momentum, and a large pool of skilled and semi-skilled labour. These advantages are being complemented by ongoing improvements in physical infrastructure, she noted, alongside rapid technological advancement across sectors.

Ms. Sitharaman also emphasized the role of sustained economic reforms in bolstering investor confidence. The cumulative effect of policy initiatives implemented over ten years has created an environment conducive to manufacturing operations and business expansion, she suggested.

The Finance Minister's remarks align with the government's broader push to position India as an alternative manufacturing destination to China. By highlighting India's combination of competitive advantages rather than isolated strengths, New Delhi aims to attract diversified foreign direct investment across industries ranging from electronics and automobiles to pharmaceuticals and renewable energy.
