India stands to benefit substantially from the global surge in artificial intelligence deployment, which is driving unprecedented demand for data centre infrastructure beyond established technology hubs, according to Manoj Paul, Managing Director of Equinix India.
The digital infrastructure firm is targeting a major capacity expansion in India, planning to grow from its current 20 megawatts to 70 megawatts within two to three years. This expansion reflects confidence in India's emerging role as a critical node in the global AI and cloud computing ecosystem.
The push comes as enterprises worldwide accelerate AI implementation across operations, creating bottlenecks in traditional data centre markets concentrated in North America and Western Europe. India's combination of technical talent, cost competitiveness, and growing digital adoption makes it an attractive destination for distributed data centre investment.
Equinix's expansion plans align with broader industry trends, as multiple technology infrastructure providers increase their footprint in India to support domestic cloud adoption and emerging as a regional hub for international clients. The growth trajectory underscores India's evolving importance in global digital infrastructure networks.
