Jaishankar made the case for deeper Quad collaboration during a Foreign Ministers' meeting in Atlanta on Saturday, held alongside the G20 Foreign Ministers' gathering. The Indian minister emphasized the need to counter non-market practices and address mounting economic pressures affecting the region, according to remarks made at the multilateral engagement.
The Quad foreign ministers' conclave, convened by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, brought together Australia's Penny Wong and Japan's Toshimitsu Motegi alongside Jaishankar. The forum, comprising India, Australia, Japan and the United States, has emerged as a key platform for coordinating strategic interests in the Indo-Pacific.
Jaishankar stressed three core priorities for the grouping: maintaining regional stability, driving sustainable prosperity, and protecting nations' freedom of choice in their foreign policy decisions. He underscored the importance of advancing existing agreements on counter-terrorism and maritime security, which remain focal points for Quad cooperation.
Capacity building initiatives featured prominently in the minister's agenda, reflecting India's emphasis on strengthening institutional frameworks among member nations. The discussions underscore the Quad's expanding focus beyond security concerns to encompass economic resilience and supply chain integrity in a region increasingly facing geopolitical uncertainties.
