India raises Rabi crop support prices for 2027-28 season

The Cabinet has greenlit a fresh round of minimum support price (MSP) increases for Rabi crops destined for the 2027-28 growing season, signaling continued government backing for winter cultivation.

Safflower emerged as the primary beneficiary of the price revision, with its MSP surging by ₹675 per quintal to reach ₹7,215 per quintal. The increase represents a 10.3 percent jump from the preceding year's level, providing substantial relief to farmers cultivating the oilseed crop.

The MSP adjustments form part of New Delhi's broader agricultural policy framework aimed at ensuring remunerative returns for cultivators and stabilizing farm incomes. The government periodically reviews support prices for essential crops based on production costs and market conditions.

The Rabi season typically spans October through March, encompassing critical crops including pulses, oilseeds, and cereals. The price increases are expected to incentivize farmers to allocate more area to supported crops and adopt improved cultivation practices for the forthcoming season.
