India exercised its Right of Reply at the UN General Assembly Third Committee on Friday, responding sharply to remarks made by Pakistan regarding Jammu and Kashmir. Bhavika Mangalanandan, First Secretary at India's Permanent Mission to the United Nations, categorically rejected Pakistan's position during the session.
"The Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh were, are and will always remain integral and inalienable parts of India," Mangalanandan stated, reaffirming New Delhi's constitutional stance on the disputed region.
In her address, the Indian diplomat also took aim at Pakistan's political governance structure. "We all know that the so-called civilian governments in Pakistan serve at the mercy of their Army and rarely complete their terms," she said, highlighting concerns about democratic institutions in the neighbouring nation. She referenced the case of a former Pakistani Prime Minister who remains incarcerated, underscoring her point about the dominance of military interests over civilian rule.
The exchange reflects the persistent diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan over Kashmir, a territory claimed by both nations. India's intervention at the UN forum underscores New Delhi's continued commitment to defending its territorial integrity on the international stage and its criticism of what it perceives as Pakistan's governance challenges.
