India's Ministry of External Affairs has launched efforts to locate 285 Indian nationals who remain unreachable following catastrophic floods that swept through Nepal, officials confirmed. The missing include staff stationed at the Trishuli 1 hydroelectric power project and several groups of travelers from different regions across India who were in Nepal when the disaster struck.
The floods, which devastated parts of Nepal in recent days, have disrupted communications and triggered widespread displacement across affected areas. Indian authorities have engaged with their Nepali counterparts to coordinate search and rescue operations and obtain updated information on the missing nationals.
Among those unaccounted for are workers engaged in operations at the Trishuli 1 facility, a significant cross-border infrastructure project. Additionally, multiple tourist groups from Indian states were trekking or traveling in flood-affected regions when the disaster occurred, complicating efforts to establish their whereabouts.
The Indian government has activated its diplomatic channels in Kathmandu and deployed resources to assist in locating the missing nationals. Authorities are urging Indian citizens in Nepal to register with the nearest Indian mission and provide regular updates on their status. Relatives of those missing have been advised to contact the Ministry of External Affairs for assistance and information.
