India's AIF commitments surge 24% to ₹17.53 trillion in June 2026

Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) in India have demonstrated continued expansion, with total commitments reaching ₹17.53 trillion as of June 2026, reflecting a 24 per cent annual increase, according to data released by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi).

The sector recorded strong sequential growth, with commitments rising 3.5 per cent during the quarter ended June 2026 compared to the March quarter. On a year-on-year basis, the growth rate stood at 23.6 per cent, underscoring sustained investor interest in alternative investment vehicles.

A significant milestone was achieved during the reporting period with total investments by AIFs crossing the ₹7 trillion threshold for the first time, indicating deepening capital deployment across the alternative asset class. This expansion reflects the growing maturity of India's AIF ecosystem and increasing institutional participation in non-traditional investment categories.

The consistent growth trajectory demonstrates the sector's relevance as an investment avenue for domestic and international capital seeking exposure to diverse asset classes and strategies. AIFs, which include Category I, Category II, and Category III funds, continue to play an expanding role in India's capital markets landscape.
