The Akash Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) system has been exported to three Central Asian nations, according to India's Defence Secretary, highlighting the country's progress in developing and deploying advanced military technology domestically and internationally.

The air-defence system represents a key achievement in India's broader strategy to reduce dependence on foreign defence equipment and establish itself as a credible supplier of military hardware. The Akash system, developed indigenously, offers air-defence capabilities designed to counter airborne threats across multiple platforms.

The exports to Armenia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan demonstrate India's expanding defence footprint beyond South Asia into the Central Asian region. These deliveries reflect growing confidence among regional nations in India's defence manufacturing capabilities and technological standards.

India has been progressively strengthening its defence industrial base, with an emphasis on indigenous research and development. The successful export of major weapon systems like Akash represents both a commercial opportunity and a validation of domestic technological capabilities, aligning with the government's broader 'Make in India' initiative in the defence sector.
