Passenger vehicle sales emerged as the strongest performer among the automotive segments, surging 23 percent year-on-year to reach 3,85,764 units in September, up from 3,13,680 units in the corresponding month last year, according to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

The two-wheeler segment also demonstrated healthy momentum, with sales increasing 13.5 percent to 24,63,103 units compared to the year-ago period. The combined performance of these major categories underpinned the overall 14.7 percent growth recorded across the automotive industry for the month.

The expansion reflects sustained consumer demand and improved market sentiment in India's automotive sector. The passenger vehicle segment's particularly strong performance suggests growing consumer confidence in the purchase of four-wheelers, even as the two-wheeler category continues to represent a significant volume driver for the overall industry.

The growth trajectory comes amid seasonal factors typical of the post-monsoon period and suggests continued momentum heading into the festive season, traditionally a strong sales period for automobile manufacturers across India.
