India's auto tech funding slips to $1.3 bn in 2026

India's automotive technology startups faced a more challenging fundraising environment in 2026, with total capital deployment declining to $1.3 billion, down from 2025 levels. The year saw 97 funding rounds completed across the sector, indicating reduced deal frequency and average ticket sizes compared to the prior year's performance.

Bengaluru continued to dominate India's auto-tech investment landscape, accounting for nearly 70 percent of the sector's total funding. The technology hub's concentration of engineering talent and established startup ecosystems reinforced its position as the primary destination for automotive innovation capital.

Among the year's most significant deals, ride-hailing platform Rapido, electric two-wheeler manufacturer Simple Energy, and shared mobility firm Rideriver led the largest funding rounds. These investments highlighted persistent investor interest in last-mile mobility solutions and electric vehicle infrastructure, despite broader sector headwinds.

The funding contraction reflects broader challenges facing India's startup ecosystem, including macroeconomic uncertainty and evolving investor risk appetites. Industry observers point to the sector's maturation and consolidation trends as factors contributing to reduced capital availability compared to 2025's elevated funding levels.
