India's Ayush sector poised for five-fold growth to $213 billion by 2030
India's traditional and alternative medicine market could expand significantly if integrated into mainstream public health systems and insurance schemes, according to a new analysis. The sector is projected to grow from its current $43 billion valuation to $213 billion within the next six years.

India's Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (Ayush) sector stands at an inflection point, with potential for substantial expansion if policymakers implement strategic integration measures, according to research by Primus Partners. The consultancy firm estimates the market could reach $213 billion by 2030, representing a nearly five-fold increase from its present $43 billion size.
The growth trajectory hinges on embedding Ayush practices into India's public health infrastructure, insurance coverage and primary care networks. Such mainstreaming would shift these traditional medicine systems from peripheral status to core components of the country's healthcare delivery model, the analysis suggests. This approach could improve accessibility for India's vast population while creating new revenue streams within the sector.
Currently, Ayush remains largely underutilized within formal healthcare systems despite widespread consumer interest and government support through dedicated ministry initiatives. Integration into public health systems would require standardization of treatments, clinical validation of practices and development of trained practitioner networks across India's rural and urban areas.
Insurance sector participation represents another critical lever for growth. By including Ayush treatments in health insurance policies—whether government-backed schemes or private plans—the sector could tap into broader patient populations and establish more sustainable financing models. Primary care integration would position Ayush practitioners as accessible entry points for preventive health services.
The projected expansion reflects growing global interest in traditional medicine systems alongside India's own wellness economy boom. Realizing the $213 billion potential, however, requires coordinated action among government regulators, healthcare providers and insurance institutions to create an enabling ecosystem for Ayush expansion.
