India's battery sector to create up to 2 million jobs by 2030

India's battery industry is undergoing a significant transformation, transitioning from a predominantly import and assembly-dependent sector into a fully integrated manufacturing ecosystem, according to staffing solutions firm Adecco India.

The industry is expected to create 1.5 to 2 million jobs by 2030 as it scales operations across the entire value chain—from lithium-ion cell production to complete battery pack assembly and recycling infrastructure. Of these projected positions, approximately 25 percent will be direct jobs, with the remaining 75 percent comprising indirect employment across supporting sectors. Annual hiring growth in the industry is anticipated to accelerate at a rate of 25 to 30 percent, the firm said.

Adecco India's projections are based on analysis from its client base of over 30 battery sector companies operating in the country. Deepesh Gupta, Director and Head of General Staffing at Adecco India, noted that the industry's expansion into capital and employment-intensive manufacturing phases will drive substantial workforce demand across multiple skill levels.

The anticipated job creation reflects India's broader push to establish domestic battery manufacturing capabilities, reducing reliance on imports while positioning the country as a competitive hub for battery production in the region. Recruitment trends are expected to increasingly favor skilled professionals as the industry matures and production processes become more sophisticated.
