India's Competition Commission for India (CCI) has approved Xavier Niel's acquisition of a 5.1 billion euro stake in Vodafone India, clearing the way for one of the telecom sector's most significant recent transactions. The regulator's decision, announced on Thursday, also gave the green light to three other major deals spanning financial technology, renewable energy and power infrastructure.
The commission cleared Prosus-backed digital lending platform Navi's transaction as part of its weekly approvals for merger and acquisition activity. Additionally, the CCI approved renewable energy company Aditya Birla Renewables' acquisition of Solenergi Power, strengthening its portfolio in the clean energy space amid India's push toward renewable capacity expansion.
Adani Energy Solutions also received regulatory clearance for its purchase of IntelliSmart Infrastructure, broadening its footprint in the energy distribution and smart grid technology segments. The approvals underscore sustained merger and acquisition momentum across India's technology, energy and financial services sectors.
The CCI's decisions follow standard regulatory review procedures and do not require further approvals from other government bodies for these transactions to proceed. The deals reflect significant investor confidence in India's core infrastructure, telecommunications and renewable energy sectors.
