India's Cert-In warns of AI-driven cyber threats, urges stronger security

The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (Cert-In) has flagged growing concerns over cybersecurity risks posed by artificial intelligence models and AI agents targeting Indian businesses and organisations. The advisory emphasises that many companies remain unaware their networks have been compromised, pointing to significant gaps in detection and monitoring capabilities across the private and public sectors.

According to the agency's findings, organisations that fell victim to AI-driven attacks lacked adequate security protocols and monitoring systems to identify breaches in real-time. The advisory serves as a wake-up call for enterprises to strengthen their cyber infrastructure and implement more rigorous access controls to prevent unauthorised intrusions.

Cybersecurity experts have echoed Cert-In's concerns, warning that AI-powered attack methods are becoming increasingly sophisticated and difficult to detect using traditional security measures. They recommend that organisations adopt multi-layered defence strategies, including advanced threat detection systems, regular security audits, and employee training programmes focused on emerging cyber threats.

The advisory comes as digital attacks on critical infrastructure and corporate networks have intensified across South Asia. Organisations are being urged to prioritise cybersecurity investments and establish dedicated incident response teams to quickly identify and contain potential breaches before they cause significant damage to operations and data integrity.
