India's consumer durables market is poised for substantial expansion in the coming years, with projections indicating the sector could reach Rs 3 to 3.25 lakh crore by 2030. The anticipated growth reflects broader efforts to strengthen the domestic manufacturing base and reduce reliance on imported components.
A key driver of this expansion will be increased local value addition in the durables industry. Currently, domestic sourcing accounts for approximately 50-55% of value addition in consumer durables products. Industry analysts estimate this figure could rise to 65-70% by 2030 as manufacturing capacity for critical components expands within India.
The shift towards greater domestic content represents a significant opportunity for component manufacturers and suppliers across the country. Government initiatives supporting manufacturing and Make in India policies are expected to accelerate investment in local production facilities. This transition could generate approximately Rs 50,000 crore in additional manufacturing activity over the coming years.
The durables market expansion aligns with India's broader economic growth trajectory and rising consumer spending power. As household incomes increase and urbanization continues, demand for consumer appliances and electronics is expected to strengthen across both metropolitan and tier-two cities. Industry observers note that increased domestic manufacturing will not only boost local value creation but also improve supply chain resilience and reduce import dependencies across the sector.
