India's cyber agency urges citizens to activate multi-factor authentication
CERT-In has issued a fresh advisory recommending that all users enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) and two-step verification wherever available as a critical security measure. The guidance underscores growing concerns about account security and unauthorized access.

India's Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a comprehensive advisory calling on all citizens and organizations to activate multi-factor authentication and two-step verification protocols to strengthen their digital security posture.
The government agency emphasized that users should enable these protective features across all platforms and services where the functionality is available. Multi-factor authentication, which requires users to provide multiple forms of verification before granting access to accounts, significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized breaches and identity theft.
CERT-In's latest guidance reflects mounting concerns over cyber threats targeting individuals and institutions across the country. By implementing an additional layer of authentication beyond passwords, users can substantially diminish the likelihood of account compromise, even if their login credentials are compromised.
The advisory comes as digital transactions and online services continue to proliferate across India. Experts recommend that users prioritize enabling MFA on accounts containing sensitive personal information, financial data, and critical communications.
Citizens are urged to review their security settings immediately and activate available authentication options on email accounts, banking platforms, social media services, and other digital accounts they regularly access.
