India's Defence Ministry Approves ₹2.12 Trillion Armed Forces Procurement Plan

India's Defence Ministry has given the green light to procurement proposals totalling ₹2.12 trillion for the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, marking a significant boost for indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities.

The Defence Acquisition Council's approval prioritizes domestic sourcing, with approximately 82 per cent of the equipment earmarked for procurement from Indian industry. The decision reflects the government's push to strengthen self-reliance in defence production and reduce dependence on foreign suppliers across critical military platforms and systems.

The clearance spans multiple categories of military hardware and technology required by the three services to modernize their operational capabilities and maintain strategic readiness. The procurement strategy aligns with India's broader policy objectives of supporting the domestic defence industry while meeting the evolving security requirements of the armed forces.

With over four-fifths of the approved proposals directed towards Indian manufacturers, the initiative is expected to generate significant economic activity within the country's defence manufacturing ecosystem, supporting employment and technological advancement in the sector.
