India's Defence Ministry inks ₹661 crore BrahMos fire control deal

The Ministry of Defence has inked a ₹661 crore contract for the procurement of BrahMos fire control systems and associated launchers for naval vessels, officials confirmed. The deal represents a significant investment in modernising the Indian Navy's anti-surface warfare capabilities.

The BrahMos weapon system remains the Navy's primary surface-to-surface missile platform for maritime strike operations. The system has been integrated aboard various frontline warships, providing enhanced targeting and engagement capabilities against enemy surface vessels. The fire control systems are critical components that enable accurate detection, tracking, and engagement of targets at extended ranges.

The procurement is part of India's broader naval modernisation programme, which seeks to upgrade existing platforms and enhance operational effectiveness across the fleet. Improved fire control systems enable better integration with the Navy's combat management systems, facilitating coordinated multi-ship operations and improved situational awareness.

The BrahMos, a supersonic cruise missile jointly developed by India and Russia, has been operationalised across multiple platforms including destroyers and frigates. The system's speed, accuracy, and range make it a potent deterrent in the Indian Ocean region, where the Navy maintains strategic responsibilities over vital sea lanes.
