India's Defence Stocks Slide as Nifty Index Falls 3 Percent

The Nifty India Defence index retreated 3 percent as investors shifted positions across the defence and aerospace manufacturing segment. The downturn reflected weakness in a range of listed defence contractors and suppliers, signalling caution among market participants tracking the sector's performance.

Among the steepest decliners, Unimech, Axiscades, and Dynamatic each shed approximately 7 percent in intraday trading. The selloff extended to a wider cohort of defence-focused companies, with Apollo Micro, MTAR Technologies, Sigma Advanced, Paras Defence, Astra Microwave, and Zen Technologies each registering losses between 4 and 6 percent.

Public sector undertakings in the defence space also participated in the decline. BEML, MIDHANI, Solar Industries, and Data Patterns all traded lower during the session, reflecting the sector-wide pressure. The broad-based nature of the losses suggested institutional repositioning rather than stock-specific concerns affecting individual companies.

The weakness in defence stocks comes as investors weigh macroeconomic headwinds and market volatility. Analysts noted that defence sector equities, which have attracted significant attention in recent years amid government modernisation initiatives, remain sensitive to broader market sentiment and liquidity flows.
