India's net direct tax collection expanded 13.21 per cent to approximately ₹13.38 lakh crore during the first 6.5 months of fiscal 2026-27, signalling healthy tax revenue momentum for the government.

Corporate tax receipts led the growth trajectory, surging 20.58 per cent to over ₹5.99 lakh crore as of October 14. Non-corporate taxes, which encompass levies paid by individuals, partnership firms, and Hindu Undivided Families, grew at a comparatively modest 5.83 per cent to reach approximately ₹6.92 lakh crore during the same period.

Securities transaction tax collections demonstrated particularly strong performance, swelling 52 per cent year-on-year to ₹46,840 crore, reflecting heightened equity market activity. Meanwhile, tax refunds issued by authorities accelerated 24.22 per cent to ₹2.65 lakh crore, indicating both increased compliance and greater processing of taxpayer claims.

On a gross basis, before accounting for refunds, direct tax collection climbed 15 per cent to ₹16.03 lakh crore. Gross corporate tax reached ₹7.53 lakh crore while non-corporate taxes totalled ₹8.03 lakh crore, underscoring broad-based participation in the tax base across individual and corporate segments.
