India's EV charging infrastructure expands rapidly to nearly 30,000 stations

India's electric vehicle charging ecosystem has experienced significant growth, with public charging stations exceeding 29,000 installations as of December 2025, according to latest infrastructure data. The expansion represents a near six-fold increase from 2022 levels, underscoring the rapid acceleration of EV infrastructure development across the nation.

The charging network has continued its upward trajectory into 2026, with the number of individual chargers surpassing 67,000 units by early August. This proliferation of charging points reflects the growing adoption of electric vehicles among Indian consumers and the corresponding need for accessible charging infrastructure across urban and semi-urban areas.

The growth has been facilitated by over 200 charging point operators (CPOs) now functioning nationwide, creating a competitive and increasingly distributed network. This multi-operator model has helped accelerate deployment across diverse geographic regions, reducing infrastructure bottlenecks that previously hindered EV adoption.

Industry analysts attribute the infrastructure expansion to rising government support, improved battery technology costs, and growing consumer confidence in electric vehicles. The enhanced charging availability addresses one of the primary barriers to EV adoption in India, potentially catalyzing further growth in the electric vehicle market during coming years.
