India's exports surge across regions, with Africa and ASEAN leading growth

India's outbound shipments have gained considerable momentum in the first five months of the current fiscal year, reflecting strengthening demand across key regional markets. Exports to African nations surged 47 percent to reach $26.19 billion during the April-August period, signaling deepening commercial ties with the continent. Meanwhile, shipments to ASEAN countries recorded an even more impressive 56 percent jump, climbing to $23.08 billion over the same timeframe.

The dual-pronged growth underscores India's expanding export footprint beyond traditional markets, as manufacturers and traders tap into emerging opportunities in both Africa and Southeast Asia. The strong performance across these regions reflects competitive advantages in Indian goods ranging from pharmaceuticals and textiles to engineering products and chemicals.

The gains represent a significant development for India's external trade strategy, which has increasingly focused on diversifying destinations and reducing dependence on mature markets. As regional economies in Africa and Southeast Asia continue to develop, Indian exporters are well-positioned to capture growing demand for value-priced, quality merchandise.

These export figures are likely to bolster India's overall merchandise trade performance for FY27, contributing to broader economic growth objectives amid evolving global trade dynamics.
